How the Replacement Refs teach us about Unity through Shared Standards and Practices

Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Preamble- US Constitution – We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Introduction- The Standard Bearer

For those of you who regularly follow the NFL, you are fully aware of the debacle that was the replacement referee experiment, an experiment that culminated in a legendary head coach putting his hands on a referee at the end of a controversial game and a Monday night football game in which one team was overtly denied a victory.

These two incidents, one could argue, led to the hasty moves by the NFL head office to end the strike by the regular referees.  The game was losing its integrity, its credibility, its civility, its legitimacy.  I want to ask you to think about the first three chaotic weeks of the 2012 NFL season as a microcosm witness to the degeneration of a unified America and the dysfunctionality of a declared Body of Christ.  This is a story of standard bearers, of Isaiah 59:19- Shall we lift up a standard brothers and sisters in Christ?
